HML Linker FAQ
What is HML Linker?
HML Linker is a user-friendly tool designed to:
- Find clinical evidence and research more conveniently, quickly, and efficiently.
- Provide seamless access to information.
- Assist clinicians, nurses, and researchers in locating full text articles for improved patient outcomes.
- Improve efficiency of database searching—saves time for the researcher.
How do I get to HML Linker?
Click the 
button within a database (e.g., MD Consult) to open HML Linker.
What happens when I click on

HML Linker displays links to one or more of the following:
Where do all the links to the electronic full-text go?
Depending on the content provider, links to the electronic full-text may be available at the article, journal, or database levels.
Why is the "Article" link not always available?
- The Queen's Medical Center, Hawaii Medical Library does not subscribe to the full text for that particular title.
- Publisher of the title may not provide full text online.
- Computer system unable to translate your search.
- The provider of the journal does not support OpenURL.
How do I get to the article if there is no "Article" link?
- Click on the Journal link to locate the table of contents.
- Click on the Source link (e.g., MD Consult) to locate the journal.

The HML Linker results page comes up, but there are no links to access the article (i.e., no Article, Journal, or Database links are visible). What do I do?
HML Linker will direct you to other options for locating the article you need.
- Library catalog for a copy of the printed journal
- Document delivery request form
- University of Hawaii at Manoa Libraries
- Hawaii State Public Library System
- Ask A Librarian form
HML Linker provides an article-level link even though the full text of the article is not available. Why?
This can occur for several reasons:
- Full text articles are withheld from the online versions of the database by the publisher or author.
- The article is indexed in a database before the publisher has made the full text available.
- The publisher's web site fails to translate and search the citation data sent by HML Linker.
- Sometimes the Library's coverage dates are incomplete, and HML Linker will provide an article link with the hope that your library has access to that date range.
The button
is not appearing in the electronic resource I am using. Why not?
If the "Find It"
- HML Linker is not available through the electronic resource. Some of the electronic resources are not compatible with the technology used for HML Linker. Click here for a status report on participating/nonparticipating resources.
- Are you unable to see the "Find It' button in PubMed? If you are accessing PubMed via a bookmark or desktop icon that you saved awhile ago, you are not being properly directed to the latest version. Go to the Library's home page to access PubMed@HML. The generic version of PubMed will not include the enhancements HML has made!
If you are still unable to see the button, contact the Library for assistance.
I am having difficulties. What do I do?
